[US Visa 2015] 7 - Denied Visa? Some Possible Responses

Well, on the bright side, at least you got your passport right away?

(This post may have been borne out of reading too many Buzzfeed listicles)

In the unlikely scenario that I didn’t get approved for my B1/B2 US Visa, I wasn’t about to take no for an answer. Being the overthinker that I am, in my mind I had prepared the following responses to convey to the visa officer, starting from the polite, to paranoid, to offensive:
  1. That's a funny joke. I could have sworn I heard you say I am "unqualified for a visa at this time."
  2. With all due respect, there must be some kind of mistake. You see, there’s a reason I have NEVER been denied for any visa before.
  3. Am I anything like the riffraff that come through here? I speak six languages for crying out loud. (The need to play the matapobre card arises)
  4. Have you not heard what I said? In case I didn’t make myself clear, I have traveled every month of the year last year.
  5. Why would you think that someone who has a vocabulary as extensive as mine would resort to being illegally employed washing dishes?
  6. Everyone in my social circle has a visa/has always had one. Why wouldn’t I deserve to get one too?
  7. You think I’m going to overstay. Please, I can find nothing more embarrassing than being deported, except being denied for a visa.
  8. I have no plans of staying permanently in the US. No offense, but terror threats are commonplace and gun control is loose. Honestly, I would feel safer in Manila. (I really do feel this way.)
  9. Don’t you know who I am?
  10. You must be new here.
  11. How dare you.
  12. How could you! We shared a few laughs just now!
  13. I want to speak to your supervisor.
  14. Who do you think you are, running ‘round leaving scars? (It would be true too, as some of the people ahead of me were definitely figuratively scarred after being denied.)
  15. You’re gonna catch a cold, from the ice inside your soul. (To which it would be epic if the visa officer responded with “Don’t come back for me. Don’t come back at aaaaaall!”

Christina Perri knows exactly how it feels.

The above list can also be named “Ways to be Escorted Out of the Embassy by Security.” Kidding aside, of course I wasn’t actually going to say most of these if I wasn't approved (and you shouldn’t either.) Although in my mind it would have been pretty funny and quite a sight since I don’t think they’ll be expecting it!

Seriously though, if you do get denied, simply thank the visa officer and leave the premises. Simply accept your fate for now. Go home and rest. Don't be in denial about your visa denial, and apply again after six months with a better strategy.

Good luck with your application!
